Clean / Wash Vegetables and Fruits

I suddenly came over this topic today, well, i thought that almost ALL people in the world eat veges and fruits right.. so, what’s the safest way to prepare a nice dish of veges (ok, i’ll focus on veges only) without worrying bout bacterias and pesticide?

According to some research (which i heard from somebody), it’s better to leave the veges in room temperature for a while, before storing them in the fridge. This is so to clear away the harmful pesticide in the veges. Yeah i heard the veges themselves would generate somekinda enzyme that would nicely dissolve the nasty pesticides away, in room temperature. And store them afterwards.

And how to wash’em then? well according to an article by somebody from Colorado State Uni, she mentioned that its best to wash them with nothing but pure clean drinking water. Note* Soaking your veges in SALT WATER will only do harm to yourself, I heard too. Salt water means weak acid, will help chemical reaction with the pesticides in the veges. The reaction would help stablize the poison. So i think its a common mistake that people soak veges in salt water when cleaning it. *Still finding proof online.*

"Experts at the University of California-Berkeley
report that this removes nearly all insects and dirt, as well as bacteria and some pesticide
residues. Special soaps or washes are not needed and could be harmful to you depending on their
ingredients."

"This is a "nothing claim." You get the same reduction by washing vegetables in plain
water. If you wash twice in plain water, you get about a 100 to 1 reduction. The bacteria is
simply removed from the produce and diluted within the water — no matter which method you
use."    - quoted from the article.

Happy eating vege’s and fruits! They’re good for our health!
